Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) – A 20-year-old man from Austin, Minnesota, has been sentenced following a frightening gun incident involving a group of girls in Rochester last summer.
Trayveon Tom Heuangsayaseng Jr. was arrested in the early morning hours of July 30, 2024, after Rochester police responded to a report of a gun being pointed at a vehicle near the Taco Bell on North Broadway.
According to the criminal complaint, three juvenile girls told officers they had earlier been at Quarry Hill Park with Heuangsayaseng Jr. when an argument broke out between him and one of the girls. The group separated, and the girls later drove to the Taco Bell. As they were leaving, they reportedly encountered Heuangsayaseng Jr. again — this time in a separate vehicle. He allegedly pointed a gun out of the car window at them.
Police located and stopped his vehicle shortly after the report and found a handgun inside. He was subsequently arrested and charged with three counts of second-degree assault and one gross misdemeanor for carrying a pistol without a permit.
Heuangsayaseng Jr. pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree assault under a plea agreement that resulted in the dismissal of the other felony charges. The plea deal capped his sentence at seven years.
At a recent sentencing hearing, he successfully argued for a downward departure from Minnesota’s sentencing guidelines. He was ordered to serve two months in jail and placed on five years of probation. A 36-month prison sentence remains stayed and could be imposed if he violates the terms of his probation.
