TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras – A 21-year-old man has been dubbed the “Ken Doll” after being arrested for allegedly leading a Facebook Marketplace scam that targeted unsuspecting buyers with fake luxury listings.

According to the Police Investigation Directorate (DPI), the suspect—whose name has not been released—worked with several accomplices to post deceptive advertisements on the platform. These ads featured high-value items like mobile phones at prices well below market value, luring in bargain hunters.

Once potential buyers expressed interest, the group maintained smooth and convincing communication to build trust, ultimately convincing victims to pay a deposit—often around 50% of the item’s price. After receiving the money, the scammers would disappear, delivering nothing in return.

The DPI launched an investigation after receiving multiple complaints from victims. Officers arrested the suspect, known as “El Ken,” on July 17 in Tegucigalpa.

Police say efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the remaining accomplices connected to the scam.
