Zachary Rice Arrested in Lincoln for Denver Gang-Related Murder

Suspect Charged with First-Degree Murder in Colorado Shooting

by Sophia Bennett

New details have emerged linking Zachary Rice, a 30-year-old suspect in a Denver murder case, to the victim, 38-year-old Marvin McCullough, through gang affiliations. Rice was apprehended in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Sunday, months after McCullough’s death during a barbecue in Denver on March 30.

Court documents reveal that McCullough was fatally shot in what police now believe was a gang-related dispute. Investigators recovered four shell casings from McCullough’s vehicle, suggesting a close-range shooting. While initial witness cooperation was limited, tips submitted to Crime Stoppers eventually led to the identification of Rice as a suspect, prompting a murder warrant for his arrest in July.

Lincoln Police encountered Rice on Sunday when responding to a disturbance call near 17th and Washington streets. Rice attempted to flee, but officers quickly apprehended him and uncovered his outstanding murder warrant. He now faces charges of first-degree murder and is held in the Lancaster County Jail without bond. His extradition hearing is scheduled for October 9.
