Two former Philippine police officers have been arrested in connection with the murder of Yitzhak Cohen and his fiancée, beauty queen Geneva Lopez, amid a land dispute.

Interior Minister Benhur Abalos and Philippine National Police Chief General Rommel Marbil revealed the arrests in a press briefing at Camp Crame. The suspects, identified as Michael Angelo Guyang and Rommel Abuzo, allegedly played a significant role in the couple’s disappearance and murder.

Investigations indicate that the conflict arose over land that Guyang had mortgaged to Lopez. According to Criminal Investigation and Detection Group officer Leo Francisco, “Guyang was unwilling to relinquish the land and even introduced Abuzo as a buyer to Geneva.” Following discussions about the couple, they allegedly devised a plan to kill them.

While the primary motive appears linked to the land dispute, Marbil indicated that robbery could also be a factor under investigation. Reports suggest Guyang previously met with the couple to discuss the land in Armenia village, Tarlac City, but claimed the encounter was brief.
