Days after the brutal murders of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria’s mother, Harjit Kaur, and cousin, Karanvir Singh, in Batala, his sister-in-law Lovjit Kaur was arrested at Sri Guru Ramdas Jee International Airport in Amritsar while attempting to return to Australia.
Lovjit Kaur was wanted by the Batala police in connection with the May 26 murder of gangster Gurpreet Singh, also known as Gora Bariar. She had come to India to attend the last rites of her mother-in-law and was intercepted at the airport as she tried to board a flight back to Australia.
With a lookout circular already issued against her, airport authorities alerted police, who took her into custody on Monday night. She was questioned overnight by local officers and then handed over to the Batala police on Tuesday morning. Authorities are investigating her potential involvement in the recent killings and her links to other accused individuals.
In a related development, Bhagwanpuria’s brother Mandeep Singh skipped the funeral of their mother, fearing arrest, with his wife attending the rites in his place.
The Davinder Bambiha gang has claimed responsibility for the murders of Harjit Kaur and Karanvir Singh on June 26, accusing them of managing Bhagwanpuria’s criminal operations.
Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, reportedly a mentor to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, is an accused in the May 2022 murder of singer Sidhu Moose Wala. He was transferred earlier this year from Bathinda central jail to Silchar jail in Assam following charges under the Narcotics Control Bureau.
