RANGPUR, July 4, 2025 (BSS) – In a high-profile crackdown, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested three individuals accused in the violent Patgram police station attack and looting case. The arrests were made during a coordinated operation in Lalmonirhat district early Friday morning.
According to a press release, RAB-13’s Sadar Company, Crime Prevention Specialized Company, and Crime Prevention Company-2 from Nilphamari Camp carried out the special operation at 7 a.m.
The suspects — Md Maidul Islam (32) of Harirampur (Battola), Md A Rashid (35), and Abul Kalam (52) of Sohagpur village — face charges including obstruction of official duties, kidnapping of detainees, assault on government officials, and issuing death threats, under Patgram Police Station Case No. 3, dated July 4, 2025.
The incident stemmed from a July 2 mobile court operation led by Patgram Upazila Nirbahi Officer and SI Syed Sakhawat, targeting illegal extortion from trucks transporting sand and stones. Two extortionists, Md Belal and Sohel, were arrested and sentenced to one month in prison that evening.
However, later that night, a mob stormed Patgram Police Station, violently snatching the two prisoners. The attackers destroyed property including laptops, printers, and government files, vandalized police vehicles, and assaulted officers, including the Officer-in-Charge.
Despite police returning fire, the mob succeeded in freeing the convicts, causing injuries to several officers in the process.
The three arrested suspects have been handed over to local authorities for legal action. Investigations into the broader network involved in the incident are ongoing.
