Five Kurdish men, including former political prisoners, have been arrested by Iran’s security forces and taken to undisclosed locations, according to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.
The detainees are Amir (Hajar) Abdollapour, Awat Alipour, Anwar Ebrahimzadeh, Smko Maroufi, and Esmail Saniar. The arrests occurred between June 18 and July 2, 2025, mostly in the Bukan district.
Esmail Saniar, a 45-year-old father of two and former political prisoner from Dashband village, was detained at 1 a.m. on July 2. Saniar had been sentenced in 2017 to two and a half years in prison for alleged ties to the Free Life Party of Kurdistan (PJAK), and was released in 2020 under a Newroz amnesty.
Earlier arrests include Awat Alipour and Anwar Ebrahimzadeh on July 1, detained by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Intelligence Organization. On June 30, environmental activist and former prisoner Smko Maroufi was arrested. Maroufi had previously been imprisoned for his activism.
Additionally, Amir Abdollapour was arrested at his home on June 18, and his current status remains unknown.
No official information has been provided regarding the charges or locations of detention for the five men, raising concerns about their safety.
