In a coordinated operation on Wednesday, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) apprehended two suspected drug traffickers at Agartala Railway Station, recovering over 6 kilograms of dry cannabis.
Following a tip-off, the authorities detained Rafiqulla Khan (29) of Raghunathpur, Munshi Bari, and Faizal Ahmed (18) of Kulubari, Paschim Para, both from Sepahijala district, Tripura. Police recovered 6.265 kg of dry cannabis packed in six separate packets, concealed inside a pit-type carry bag.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to plans to transport the contraband to Assam via train, using Agartala as a transit point. The seized ganja is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 1.10 lakh in Assam’s market.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Agartala GRPS. Both accused are scheduled to be produced before court on Thursday.
Agartala GRP officials have stepped up surveillance at railway stations across Tripura to curb the movement of illegal drugs, with further arrests expected as investigations continue.
