Agnes Setshwantsho, the alleged fraudster and murderer, has had her bail application postponed to next week after appearing in the Molopo Magistrate’s Court in Mahikeng, North West. Setshwantsho is accused of committing insurance fraud related to the death of her niece, Bonolo Modisaemang, with suspicions raised that it was a murder intended to claim insurance money.
During the hearing, investigation officer Keshi Mabunda, known for his work in the arrest and conviction of serial killer Rosemary Nomia Ndlovu, expressed concerns that Setshwantsho may attempt to flee the country, noting her familial connections in Botswana. The investigation revealed that Setshwantsho had taken out approximately 40 insurance policies with five different insurers.
The courtroom was packed with relatives and community members who reacted with shock as details of the extensive number of policies were disclosed. Family representative Itireleng Setshwantsho stated, “We welcome the support of people flocking at home. It’s tough, we are struggling… As a family, old wounds are being scratched. We do not want her to get bail.”
Authorities are also investigating potential connections between Setshwantsho and the deaths of her husband and two children, which are suspected to be linked to insurance claims. Requests have been made to exhume their bodies for further examination.
