In a significant development, Jaipur police have arrested three individuals — including a final-year MBBS student from AIIMS Jodhpur — for their alleged involvement in a dummy candidate scam during the NEET-UG 2020 examination.
The accused have been identified as:
Sachin Gaura (22): Final-year MBBS student at AIIMS Jodhpur
Ajit Gaura (30): Medical intern at Shri Jagannath Pahadia Medical College, Bharatpur
Subhash Saini (33): Community Health Officer and previously accused in a 2013 exam fraud
According to Jaipur DCP (West) Amit Kumar, Sachin Gaura allegedly paid Rs60 lakh to Saini to arrange for someone else — suspected to be Ajit Gaura — to appear in the 2020 NEET-UG exam on his behalf. The impersonator helped Sachin secure 667 marks and an AIR of 1,443, which was sufficient for admission to AIIMS Jodhpur.
Shockingly, the NEET admit card bore Ajit’s photograph instead of Sachin’s, indicating clear impersonation. While Ajit had earlier cleared NEET in 2019 after years of struggle, police noted that Sachin, who never took the test himself, has been performing well academically at AIIMS.
Saini, described as a repeat offender, allegedly used forged documents and his network to orchestrate the fraud. Investigators are seeking data from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and concerned medical colleges to further verify the extent of the racket.
This arrest follows an earlier bust in Chomu, Jaipur, where five individuals, including postgraduates and an MBBS student, were caught attempting a similar scam during NEET-UG 2024.
Police believe Chomu could be a hub for exam fraud operations and are expanding their probe to uncover a broader cheating network.
