In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Kishanganj Police, in partnership with the Special Task Force (STF), arrested two suspects near the railway station on Thursday and seized 1 kg of heroin valued at approximately Rs 1 crore.
Kishanganj Superintendent of Police Sagar Kumar hailed the arrest as a significant breakthrough in dismantling an inter-state drug trafficking network. The arrested individuals have been identified as Baliram Chaurasia from Shivrampur, Ballia district (Uttar Pradesh), and Lalita Devi from Muzaffarpur district (Bihar).
The police acted on precise intelligence about smuggling activities and formed a special team led by SDPO-1 Gautam Kumar to monitor the railway station area. During a search, the team apprehended the duo and recovered the banned substance.
On interrogation, the accused revealed they were instructed by a person in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, to transport heroin from Manipur back to Bihar. The arrested pair was caught while returning from Manipur.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Town Police Station in Kishanganj. Authorities are investigating further to track down other network members, including the kingpin based in Ratlam.
SP Kumar confirmed ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region through such coordinated operations.
