by Sophia Bennett

Two residents of Palos Heights recently became victims of aggravated identity theft while banking at Old National Bank. The Palos Heights Police Department, collaborating with Minneapolis investigators, identified 55-year-old Jason Siegert from Chicago Heights as the suspect. According to Sgt. John Parnitzke, the first theft involved a $15,000 withdrawal, followed by more withdrawals and attempted withdrawals in Illinois, totaling over $45,000.

The case spanned various locations, with Siegert allegedly targeting bank branches in Oswego, Aurora, Buffalo Grove, and beyond, as well as $15,000 stolen in Minneapolis. Surveillance footage matched Siegert’s Illinois driver’s license photo, confirmed by distinct tattoos seen in additional footage. Siegert reportedly admitted to the thefts after being interviewed by police.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions with financial transactions to protect against similar threats, as Sgt. Parnitzke advised that electronic banking options offer enhanced security compared to mailing checks.
