Chris Brown Pleads Not Guilty in London Club Assault

Singer faces GBH charge over 2023 nightclub incident

by Amelia Crawford

LONDON — American singer Chris Brown pleaded not guilty at Southwark Crown Court on Friday to a charge of grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent, linked to an alleged assault at a London nightclub in 2023.

Brown, 35, was arrested in Manchester last month in connection with the incident. He was later released after posting a £5 million security bond. Despite the legal proceedings, Brown has continued performing as part of his tour, including a concert in Cardiff, Wales, just one day before the court appearance.

According to the Metropolitan Police, the charge stems from a serious altercation that occurred at a London club in 2023. Details of the incident have not been fully disclosed, but the GBH with intent charge is among the most serious assault allegations under UK law.

This is not Brown’s first encounter with legal troubles. He remains widely known for his 2009 felony assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna, which led to jail time and years of probation.

Brown’s next court appearance is pending as the case proceeds.
