The Cyber Crime Branch has busted an online job scam gang, arresting two accused from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and Shri Dungargarh, Rajasthan. The gang targeted victims by promising high returns for simple online tasks via Telegram channels and fake websites.
Puja Dwivedi, a resident of Bawadia Kala, filed a complaint after losing Rs 5.94 lakh in November last year. She was lured through a Telegram message offering online jobs with lucrative pay for tasks like booking flights and giving five-star ratings. She was directed to a fraudulent website and asked to deposit money as part of the process.
The gang used a special app showing fake profits when tasks were “completed.” However, when victims tried to withdraw money, they were told their scores were insufficient and were asked to pay more to unlock earnings. Once large sums were transferred, communication was severed.
The accused arrested are:
Kanak Bhai Ahmedabadi (32) from Ahmedabad, Gujarat
Hansraj Godara (22) from Shri Dungargarh, Rajasthan
Police seized mobile phones and fake SIM cards from them. Investigations traced the bank accounts used to collect fraudulent payments.
The Cyber Crime Branch is working to trace other gang members and locate more victims who may have fallen prey to the scam.
