The police have arrested five individuals involved in a fake recruitment racket that cheated unemployed youths by promising government jobs. The scam involved fake websites, fabricated recruitment exams, and bogus appointment letters, reminiscent of the Bollywood movie ‘Special 26’.
The case began when Neeraj, a resident of Jatu Lohari, complained that the accused took Rs 7 lakh from him for a government job in the non-existent ‘Shagun Haryana Health and Family Welfare Council’. His doubts arose after discovering the appointment letter and ID card were fake.
The Cyber Crime team, led by Sub-Inspector Vikas Kumar, arrested prime accused Baljeet and Ritu from Panipat. Further arrests include Sanjay Kumar (Hisar), Balkar (Jind), and Gulshan (Chandigarh).
Police seized 11 CPUs, 10 LCD monitors, 3 printers, 2 biometric devices, 13 mobile phones, 8 payment slip books, 22 cheque books, Rs 1,57,000 in cash, and froze Rs 1,21,000 in bank accounts.
The gang ran fake offices across Bhiwani, Jind, and Yamunanagar. They used the fake entity ‘Shagun Gramin Health and Family Welfare Council’ and its website to lure job seekers across Haryana.
The gang conducted bogus recruitment exams in Hisar, issued fake appointment letters, ID cards, and salary slips to nearly 50 fake recruits. These recruits were sent to rural areas to scam locals with promises under fake government schemes like Mukhyamantri Vivah Shagun Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Shadi Shagun Yojana.
Baljeet, Sanjay, and Ritu have been sent to judicial custody, while Balkar and Gulshan remain in police custody for questioning. The investigation continues to identify and arrest other gang members.
