by Ananya Mehta

The Bhiwandi police have successfully apprehended a group of fraudsters accused of deceiving individuals by offering to sell foreign currency at lower rates. The primary suspects, Hasan Musa Shaikh (29) and Farzana Ameerullah Shaikh (39), both from New Delhi, were arrested alongside two others, Ameer Ali Khan (26) and Majidali Tahir Hussain (39) from Uttar Pradesh, as well as Haider Shaikh (32) from West Bengal.

The fraudulent scheme involved the accused promising victims large amounts of foreign dollars in exchange for cash, typically ranging from Rs2 to Rs3 lakh. Instead of the promised currency, victims received only a small amount of dollars accompanied by paper, leaving them defrauded.

Police investigations revealed that the gang operated from a rented flat in Mankoli Naka, Bhiwandi, where they strategically built trust with local shopkeepers and residents to carry out their deceitful activities.

Maloja Shinde, Senior Police Inspector, confirmed that two cases linked to this gang had previously been registered at Manpada in Dombivli and Deonar. The suspects have been handed over to the Manpada police for further investigation as authorities work to uncover the full extent of their fraudulent operations.
