FAYETTE, Miss. — Courtez D’Henry Damper, 20, from Port Gibson, was arrested June 16 in connection with the mass shooting at the Fayette Day Festival.
Jefferson County Sheriff James E. Bailey confirmed that Damper was charged with murder and arraigned on June 17. He was denied bond and is currently held at Jefferson County Jail.
The shooting occurred on May 31, 2025, during the festival, killing 22-year-old Rayshaude D. Hudson and injuring eight others.
Sheriff Bailey assured the community of the commitment to justice for victims and families and noted that more arrests are expected. The investigation is being led by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, alongside the Fayette Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
