Robert Rahrle Gets 8-Year Sentence in Care Package Scam

Scammed families of inmates in multi-million dollar fraud

by Sophia Bennett

Syracuse, N.Y. — Robert Rahrle has been sentenced to over eight years in federal prison for orchestrating a fraudulent scheme involving prison care packages that defrauded families out of millions.

Senior U.S. District Judge Glenn Suddaby handed down the sentence last Friday, giving Rahrle 100 months for wire fraud and 60 months for tax evasion. The sentences will run concurrently.

In addition to his prison time, Rahrle was ordered to pay a $2 million money judgment and back taxes totaling $178,890.46. Judge Suddaby will determine any further restitution at a hearing in August.

Rahrle’s scheme involved collecting payments from families under the false promise of delivering care packages to their incarcerated loved ones. Instead, he pocketed the funds, leaving victims defrauded and inmates without supplies.

The case highlights the exploitation of vulnerable families and the abuse of trust through a seemingly compassionate service.
