Nursery Worker Roksana Lecka Convicted of Abusing 21 Babies
Roksana Helena Lecka, 22, has been convicted of abusing 21 babies at two London nurseries, including kicking one child in the face and stepping on his shoulder. The conviction came on Monday, June 16, at Kingston Crown Court following a six-week trial.
Lecka, who worked at Riverside Nursery and Little Munchkins in Hounslow, was found guilty after disturbing CCTV footage revealed repeated abuse of infants under her care between October 2023 and June 2024.
According to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), Lecka was seen pinching, scratching, and dropping babies into cots. In one shocking instance, she repeatedly kicked a boy in the face and stepped on his shoulder. Other footage showed her pushing babies headfirst into cots and covering a toddler’s mouth to silence his cries.
Detective Sergeant Geoff Boye of the Metropolitan Police said: “Lecka carried out multiple assaults on defenceless children, including pinching and grabbing them, and kicking a child in the face.”
The abuse came to light after concerned parents reported unusual bruising and injuries on their children in early 2024. Lecka was arrested in July 2024 after an internal investigation and review of nursery CCTV footage. She admitted to smoking cannabis before work and was seen vaping just a metre away from an infant.
Detective Inspector Sian Hutchings praised the strength of the victims’ families, stating: “These families trusted Lecka with their babies. Watching footage of her abuse in court was deeply distressing.”
Lecka’s abusive behavior occurred while she worked at Riverside Nursery from January to June 2024. Reports show she targeted children when staff were absent or distracted. Riverside Nursery has since closed.
Solicitor Jemma Till, representing affected families, said: “Our clients are devastated and traumatised. This case highlights the urgent need for greater safeguarding in childcare settings.”
Lecka will be sentenced on September 26 at Kingston Crown Court. Senior Crown Prosecutor Gemma Burns condemned her actions as “exceptionally cruel,” adding that she “abused a position of trust in the most appalling way.”
