ASHANTI REGION, GHANA – The Ashanti Regional Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested 25-year-old Emmanuel Boateng for impersonation and defrauding unsuspecting victims under false pretenses.
Boateng, who is unemployed, was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation at his hideout in Amangoase, a suburb of Nsuta. According to a statement issued by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Regional Police Command, Boateng had been fraudulently impersonating Bright Appiah—the CEO of Nana Kofi Herbal and a registered traditional herbalist based in Ntonsu.
Using Mr. Appiah’s identity, Boateng reportedly misled individuals seeking herbal treatment by altering legitimate online content to display his own contact information. Victims, believing they were contacting Nana Kofi Herbal, were instead routed to Boateng, who extorted large sums of money while posing as a professional healer.
Investigations indicate that the scam extended internationally, with victims located in countries including the United Kingdom, France, and Germany.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command is continuing its investigations and has urged the public to be cautious when dealing with online service providers. Authorities recommend verifying contact information before making any payments and reporting suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
