Patrick Smith Arrested in Summerville Domestic Assault Incident
A 35-year-old man was arrested over the weekend following a domestic violence incident in Summerville. Patrick Smith was taken into custody and charged with Battery under the Family Violence Act (FVA), according to the Summerville Police Department.
Officer Joshua Mitchell responded to a report of a domestic dispute on Seventh Street. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim, who alleged that Smith had assaulted her. The incident report noted visible injuries on the woman, including bruising, swelling, and discoloration on her upper left forehead—injuries consistent with being struck.
The altercation reportedly began when the victim and her grandmother were preparing to leave the residence. According to the victim, Smith slapped her on the left side of the face, grabbed her by the hair, and repeatedly punched her forehead.
Smith admitted to the assault during the investigation, reportedly expressing frustration over the burden of caring for the victim’s children and accusing her of neglecting them.
The victim declined immediate medical attention at the scene, citing lack of childcare, but planned to seek treatment later at Chattooga County Emergency Department.
Smith was arrested without incident and booked into the Chattooga County Jail on a Battery FVA charge.
