In a major drug enforcement operation, Ponda Police arrested Benedito Fernandes (54), a resident of Ghodkamolem, Poinguinim, Canacona, after seizing 6.314 kg of suspected ganja valued at approximately Rs6.30 lakh.
The raid occurred on the evening of April 27, beneath the Borim Bridge in Ponda. Acting on a tip-off from a trusted source, police conducted a search between 7:35 PM and 9:00 PM, during which Fernandes was found carrying the greenish dry leafy substance.
A case has been registered under Crime No. 58/2025 at Ponda Police Station, citing Section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act, 1985.
The investigation is being conducted by PSI Anjali Dhulapkar under the supervision of SDPO Ponda, Shri Shivram Vaigankar, with overall direction from SP South Goa, Shri Tikam Singh Verma, IPS.
