Liam Stimpson Jailed for Rape in Cardiff City Centre

Victim attacked during birthday celebration on December 27

by Amelia Crawford

A man named Liam Stimpson has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping a woman in Cardiff city centre. CCTV and mobile phone footage captured the attack, which occurred in the early hours of December 27, 2023.

Stimpson, a resident of Llanrumney, Cardiff, faced charges of rape and grievous bodily harm. Despite denying the allegations, he was found guilty by a jury at Cardiff Crown Court on May 30.

The assault took place as Stimpson was celebrating his 24th birthday, under a railway bridge near Callaghan Square and St Mary Street. The victim attempted to escape while shouting for help, but the attack persisted.

Fortunately, two key witnesses—a bar cleaner and a delivery driver—intervened, prompting a call to the police. Within 30 minutes of the report, Stimpson was arrested on Caroline Street and has remained in custody since.
