EL PASO, TX — A 27-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a disturbing livestreamed video that allegedly shows him shooting a dog multiple times with a gel blaster.
Jesus Armando Ortega was taken into custody Friday at an apartment complex on George Dieter Drive after being identified as the individual behind the social media livestream. According to the El Paso Police Department, the video showed a Pitbull mix being repeatedly struck with gel pellets.
The incident prompted an investigation by the department’s Animal Cruelty Investigation Unit, which quickly led to Ortega’s arrest.
He was charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals. Jail records indicate his bond was set at $4,000, which he posted the same day, securing his release.
Authorities have not reported any updates on the condition of the dog involved.
Police are reminding the public that acts of animal cruelty are taken seriously and will be prosecuted.
