Frederick Papa Kow-Assifuah Nabbed for Fake Doctor Scam

Accused lured victims with fake travel deals, say police

by Sophia Bennett

Frederick Papa Kow-Assifuah was arrested on June 6, 2025, in Crispo City, Central Region, after allegedly impersonating a doctor and operating a fraudulent scheme targeting women seeking to travel abroad.

Police say he posed as a physician at the fictitious “United Brain Hospital” in Mallam. At the time of arrest, he was wearing a lab coat and stethoscope while waiting to meet another victim. A raid of his hideout uncovered medical items such as stethoscopes, IV drips, syringes, vaccine bottles, and GH¢8,500 in cash, along with a Ghanaian passport.

Authorities revealed Kow-Assifuah used online platforms to initiate romantic relationships and eventually convinced his targets to pay for fake European travel packages. During interrogation, he confessed to the elaborate scheme.

He is currently in custody and assisting with further investigations. Police say this case is a stark reminder of the evolving methods used by fraudsters to exploit trust and desperation, particularly among Ghanaians hoping to migrate.
