BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy, Michel Quinones, 40, was arrested following an alleged domestic dispute with his girlfriend and now faces multiple charges, including robbery by sudden snatching without a weapon, witness tampering, and battery involving dating violence.
Quinones was arrested Friday and appeared in Broward County bond court on Saturday, where a judge found probable cause to proceed. Bond was set at $5,000, and he was placed under standard pretrial supervision with a no-contact order issued, alongside a ban on possessing weapons or firearms.
The charges arose after an altercation during which Quinones allegedly took his girlfriend Tiffany Sastre Carreras’ phone when she mentioned calling the police. Carreras testified during the hearing, expressing doubt about the prosecutor’s portrayal of the incident and stating she did not feel threatened or in fear of her life.
“I don’t think how the state is presenting the case is how the things happened,” Carreras said. She explained there was about a 20-minute gap between telling Quinones she would call the police and the phone being taken, and denied actively trying to call 911 at the time.
Despite Carreras’ defense, prosecutors requested the no-contact order, citing initial statements to law enforcement describing a violent incident.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office has not yet commented on Quinones’ employment status following the arrest.
