by Ananya Mehta

Charan Narayan Chetule, a 63-year-old resident of Ganga Nagar, Khat Road, Khokar in Bhandara district, was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for his role in an ongoing education scam. He was presented before the court on Friday, where the magistrate granted one-day police custody remand (PCR) till June 8, 2025.

According to police sources, Chetule was responsible for forwarding the appointment proposal of a man falsely claiming to be a school principal. The impersonator turned out to be the son of Chetule’s friend and was appointed based on the fraudulent proposal, which received approval from the Director of the Education Board.

As part of his official duties, Chetule was supposed to verify the documents and identity. However, instead of flagging discrepancies, he allegedly approved the fake principal’s credentials and passed them up the chain, aiding in a fraudulent appointment.

Investigators say that Chetule played a direct role in bypassing verification protocols and legitimizing forged credentials, making him a key figure in the scam.

Further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the network and other officials involved.
