A man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to violent disorder. Abdinasir Hussein, 24, from the Fishponds area of Bristol, was involved in unrest on August 3, where he was seen throwing missiles in Redcliffe Way.
During the incident, Hussein was among counter-protesters in Castle Park and later appeared on CCTV throwing objects towards protesters in the vicinity. He was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court, where Judge Edward Burgess noted that Hussein’s actions “added fuel to the already caused fire.”
Although the judge acknowledged that Hussein was not a central figure in the disorder, he emphasized that Hussein’s behavior contributed to a violent situation that posed significant risks to the public and police officers.
Hussein is the 34th individual to be sentenced in connection with the August unrest. Detective Chief Inspector Tom Herbert remarked that Hussein’s actions played a substantial role in the disorder. He reiterated that the police would not tolerate such violent behavior, highlighting that over 30 individuals have now been sentenced, most receiving custodial sentences.
