BATON ROUGE, La. — Kayla Jones, 33, a former employee of the Ascension Parish Public School System, has been arrested for allegedly stealing over $12,000 during her employment.
The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office (APSO) revealed that Jones faces a felony charge of theft involving amounts between $5,000 and $25,000. The investigation began after Ascension Public Schools officials contacted law enforcement on April 30 regarding the missing funds.
An internal audit uncovered that Jones took approximately $12,624.92 in multiple separate transactions over time. After a warrant was issued, Jones voluntarily turned herself in and was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
The investigation remains active.
Ascension Public Schools Superintendent Edith M. Walker emphasized the district’s commitment to integrity, stating, “We have zero tolerance for any form of misconduct or financial mismanagement within our school system. Upon discovering potential theft at Central Middle School, we immediately launched an investigation with an independent auditor and notified law enforcement.”
Walker added, “We are grateful for the partnership with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office in pursuing this case and protecting our school district. We remain committed to transparency, accountability, and safeguarding public resources and will see this matter through to the fullest extent of the law.”
