Rajlaxmi Mishra Held for Fake Marriage Scam in Sambalpur

Rs 1.4 Lakh Duped from MP Man Over Fraudulent Wedding

In a startling incident, the Khetrajpur Police arrested two individuals, including a woman, for allegedly duping a man from Madhya Pradesh of Rs1.4 lakh under the pretense of a marriage proposal.

The accused have been identified as Rajlaxmi Mishra from the Gosala area of Burla and Mahendra Deep from Sonepur. Both were living in the Ainthapalli area under the aliases Rashmi Panda and Sanjay Panda, posing as siblings.

According to police, the victim, Ranjit Sahu, was lured into a fake marriage agreement and visited Sambalpur with his family on May 20 to meet the prospective bride. They met near Samalei Ghat, where the accused demanded money for wedding arrangements and attire.

Once the amount was handed over, the fraudsters disappeared without a trace. A total of Rs1.4 lakh was duped from Sahu and his family. Acting swiftly on the complaint filed at Khetrajpur Police Station, officers tracked down and arrested the duo. Police were able to recover Rs1.21 lakh, which has since been returned to the victim.

Inspector-in-Charge at Khetrajpur lauded the prompt action by the team and urged the public to remain cautious, especially in matters involving marriage and financial transactions.
