Two men are in custody following separate shootings in Atlantic City that resulted in injuries to three individuals on the same day.
The first incident occurred at approximately 3:16 a.m. on October 12, when an unidentified victim approached police in front of the Clayton Graham Public Safety Building, collapsing on the ground. After receiving medical attention, the victim was transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s City Campus. Fortunately, the injury was reported as non-life-threatening. Investigations by the Violent Crimes Unit revealed that the victim had been shot by Rockwell Pohlig, 34, of West Deptford, Gloucester County, after an argument in the first block of South Morris Avenue. Pohlig later turned himself in at the Atlantic County Justice Facility and is awaiting a detention hearing.
Later that day, police responded to a ShotSpotter alert at 7:10 p.m. in the 1300 block of Caspian Avenue, where two additional victims were found with non-life-threatening injuries and also taken to AtlantiCare’s City Campus. Through their investigation, authorities identified Eric Melton, 30, of Atlantic City, as a suspect. Melton was arrested on Wednesday at New York and Atlantic avenues, where he allegedly provided false information to the officers, leading to an additional charge.
Both Pohlig and Melton face serious charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Additionally, Melton is charged with obstruction of justice and hindering apprehension. Both suspects remain jailed pending their respective detention hearings.
