Goa Cybercrime Police Arrest Seven in Fake Call Centre Bust

Suspects Cheated US Citizens Posing as Loan Agents

Goa’s cybercrime police arrested seven individuals on Friday for allegedly operating a fake call centre. The suspects impersonated agents from loan companies, Amazon staff, bank employees, and representatives from government agencies and law enforcement, targeting US citizens for financial fraud.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Rahul Gupta, the investigation revealed that the accused made voice calls to US citizens, enticing those who engaged with them to transfer money.

The cybercrime police registered a first information report (FIR) based on a complaint from PSI Sanit Kavlekar. The complaint indicated that the illegal call centre was operational between July 12 and July 13 at a hotel in Calangute, where the seven individuals were caught.

After conducting technical surveillance, the police raided the hotel and apprehended the suspects. The individuals have been identified as:Vishal Vaghela (34) and Acharya Balkrishna (28) from Gujarat

H Puloto Awomi (20), Inovi Zhimomi (21), and Vikito (21) from Nagaland Dhananjay Singh (27) from Rajasthan

Chunjang Lung Rongmei (31) from Assam.

The police recovered four laptops, a router, and a switch from the scene, all of which will be sent for cyber forensic examination. PI Deepak Pednekar is currently investigating the case further. SP Gupta has urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
