Medical College police arrested P.M. Rahees, a 35-year-old resident of Kuttikkattoor, on Sunday for allegedly orchestrating a fake robbery to fraudulently obtain around Rs40 lakh from his father-in-law. The scam was uncovered after a two-day investigation by a special police squad.
Rahees had filed a complaint on March 20, reporting that Rs40 lakh was stolen from his car while parked at a private hospital in Poovattuparamba. He claimed the money belonged to a close relative who had entrusted him with its safekeeping.
However, police, aided by CCTV footage from various locations, found inconsistencies in Rahees’s story. Further investigation revealed that he had staged the robbery with the help of two hired accomplices to deceive his father-in-law.
