by Amelia Crawford

Jasmine Cathey, 25, of no fixed address, has been charged with nine offences related to theft, assault, and fraud. The charges include assault causing actual bodily harm, racially aggravated assault, robbery, fraud by false representation, common assault, two counts of assault by beating, and two counts of theft from a person.

Cathey is set to appear in Coventry Magistrates Court today (22 July) for her first hearing.

These charges follow several reported incidents:

  • On 19 August 2023, a man was allegedly followed by Cathey through Stratford, tripped, and was kicked repeatedly before she reportedly stole his smartphone, chain necklace, and coat, valued at approximately £1,400.
  • On 17 June 2024, she allegedly harassed a man on Alcester Road from her bicycle in a racially charged manner, then rammed into him, blocking his path and punching him in the face.
  • On 22 June, Cathey allegedly approached a woman at a bar on Rother Street, claiming to have been sexually assaulted, before stealing the victim’s handbag and fleeing on a bicycle, using the stolen bank card for purchases.
  • On 28 June, she reportedly followed a man from a bar on Union Street and stole his phone, car keys, and wallet.
  • On 19 July, while a man was walking his dog down Shottery Road, Cathey allegedly grabbed the dog, spat in his face, and bit his arm, causing injury.
  • On 20 July, she approached a woman near a supermarket asking for money, then attacked her with a wheelchair and spat at her when she brought back a meal deal.
  • On the same day, Cathey reportedly asked an elderly woman for food and money before throwing an unknown blue liquid over her.
  • Also on 20 July, she allegedly offered a woman a sandwich; when declined, she mentioned having a knife and chased her.

Cathey’s actions have raised significant concerns about public safety in the area.
