Albany, NY (WRGB) — Junte Wunner has been convicted of second-degree murder for the fatal shooting of Mohammed Poquee on October 20, 2024, at the Ida Yarborough Apartments, Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced.
Wunner was also found guilty of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment, but was acquitted of an unrelated weapons charge tied to a separate firearm found on him during his arrest eight days later.
The two-and-a-half-day trial featured testimony from 19 witnesses, including forensics experts and detectives from the Albany Police Department. A key piece of evidence was nine minutes of security footage showing Wunner—wearing a bright orange ski mask—deejaying and later confronting Poquee during a party.
The footage showed Wunner pulling a handgun from his waistband and firing five shots, two of which struck Poquee. Despite Poquee’s visible gesture indicating he was unarmed, Wunner fired at close range.
Defense attorney Salvatore Russo argued that Wunner acted out of fear, but prosecutors, led by Assistant District Attorneys Ryan Carty and Taylor Cupp, emphasized the recklessness of his actions, especially given the proximity of a toddler at the scene.
Wunner now faces a potential life sentence, with sentencing scheduled for June 30.
