A history-sheeter, Bollu Manoj, was arrested on Tuesday after surrendering to the Chandurthi police in connection with the brutal murder of Bollu Rajavva (57), his close relative. His mother, Mohinavva, was also arrested after he confessed her involvement in the crime.
The murder was allegedly triggered by a land dispute between the families. According to police, Manoj ambushed Rajavva near the Peddamma temple in Chandurthi mandal headquarters on Monday while she was returning from farm work. He fatally attacked her with a coconut-cutting knife.
Following the crime, Manoj walked into the local police station carrying the murder weapon and surrendered voluntarily.
Superintendent of Police Gite Mahesh Babasaheb confirmed in a press release that Mohinavva had conspired with her son to carry out the attack.
Manoj has a criminal history, including a 2023 murder case and involvement in theft and threats. A rowdy sheet was opened against him in 2024. As a minor, he had also been sent to a juvenile home where he underwent counselling.
Both Manoj and Mohinavva have now been remanded to judicial custody, and further investigation is ongoing.
