HULL — Former Hull Mayor Paul Walton, 58, of McDonough, has been indicted on several charges after allegedly using a city credit card for personal expenses, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

The probe began in January 2024 when the Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office asked the GBI to investigate Walton’s spending. Walton served as Hull’s mayor from 2019 to 2023.

The investigation revealed that Walton used the city credit card improperly, prompting the Northern Judicial Circuit Grand Jury to indict him on April 21, 2025. Walton now faces one count of violation of oath of office, one count of felony theft by taking, and 54 counts of financial transaction card fraud.

Walton voluntarily surrendered to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office earlier this month and was booked into Madison County Jail on May 8.

The GBI stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
