Bishnu Prasad Pattnaik, wanted for multiple job fraud cases across Odisha and other states, was arrested by the Crime Branch in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday after being on the run for years.
Pattnaik allegedly deceived several victims, including an aeronautical engineer from Gunupur, by creating fake job offer and appointment letters from international consultancy companies. The first complaint was lodged in October 2018 at Gunupur police station, prompting an investigation by the Crime Branch.
In a separate case from September 2018, Pattnaik duped a woman of Rs 15 lakh by falsely promising to secure a high-paying job in Malaysia for her son, an Electronic and Instrumentation Engineering graduate.
The Crime Branch investigation also revealed Pattnaik’s involvement in an older fraud case from 2002 registered at Bissamcuttack Police Station, where he remains absconding.
Pattnaik used forged documents including offer letters, address proofs, and driving licenses to conceal his identity. He introduced himself with false credentials, claiming to be a medical doctor, professor, and engineer.
Despite a Look Out Circular issued against him in January 2019, Pattnaik fled to Cambodia and reportedly created a second passport. He has been residing there since 2012, claiming to have started an IT company now under investigation.
Pattnaik frequently visited Odisha, misleading law enforcement until he was finally tracked down and arrested in Bhubaneswar in May 2025 based on technical intelligence and surveillance.
The Crime Branch plans to seek his remand to continue further investigations into the multi-state job fraud network.
