MEMPHIS, Tenn. — More than a month after a mass shooting at a Memphis anti-gun violence meeting left five injured and one dead, police have arrested Pacarie Roberts, a man with a known criminal history, in connection with the case.
The shooting took place on April 9 during a meeting hosted by Memphis Allies, a violence intervention group. Matthew Williams, 22, was killed, and five others were wounded. Authorities described the event as chaotic and tragic, especially given its setting — a gathering aimed at preventing violence.
Memphis Police confirmed Roberts’ arrest on Wednesday, following what they called a “relentless” investigation by homicide detectives and specialized units. He was taken into custody without incident, but few details about his specific involvement have been released due to the ongoing investigation.
Roberts faces charges of theft, arson, and criminal responsibility for facilitation of felony to wit first-degree murder, indicating he is accused of knowingly assisting the shooter.
Police say they are still gathering evidence and pursuing leads. Just days before Roberts’ arrest, Crimestoppers offered a $50,000 reward for tips — noting a surprising lack of useful information despite public knowledge of the case.
Roberts’ criminal record is extensive. In July 2022, he was arrested with a Glock pistol modified with a machine gun switch after allegedly stealing a car. Two months later, he was arrested again in another stolen vehicle case. His social media features music videos showing firearms and violence, including staged scenes of robbery and shootings.
He is not yet scheduled for arraignment in the mass shooting case, but is due in court in June for a separate weapons violation case.
The investigation remains active, and police continue to urge anyone with information to come forward.
