A 66-year-old murder accused, Santosh Dehu Kurhade, who had been on the run for 15 years, was finally arrested by the Thane Rural police from Maharashtra’s Palghar district. The arrest was made based on a tip-off, and the police apprehended Kurhade in Wada last week, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police (Thane Rural), Dr. D S Swami.
Kurhade was wanted in connection with the murder of Suresh Ravji Wagh, who was beaten to death on June 5, 2009. According to the police, Kurhade and two other individuals had attacked Wagh over a dispute, leading to his death.
An FIR was filed against Kurhade under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including:
Section 302 (murder)
Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons/means)
Section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace)
Kurhade had been evading arrest since the day of the crime, while the other two accused in the case were arrested earlier.
This long-awaited arrest closes a chapter in a 15-year-old murder investigation. Authorities are continuing their efforts to investigate the case further.
