Suspect caught loitering at 7-Eleven linked to March homicide

by Amelia Crawford

Fort Myers, FL — Authorities have apprehended David Thurman, 61, in connection with the March 16 murder of Vely Jean-Pierre, 67, in Cape Coral.

The arrest came after a worker at a 7-Eleven on Colonial Boulevard reported a man loitering outside the store who matched the description of the homicide suspect. Responding to the tip on May 12, Fort Myers Police officers arrived and identified the man as Thurman, who was then taken into custody.

Police confirmed Thurman’s arrest the following day. He is currently being held without bond on a second-degree murder charge. His arraignment is scheduled for June 16.

The investigation into Jean-Pierre’s murder has been ongoing since March, and Thurman’s apprehension marks a major development in the case.
