In a series of coordinated actions, Excise Task Force officials arrested five drug peddlers and seized a total of 119 kg of ganja across various areas in Telangana on Monday.
In the most significant bust, officials apprehended Rambabu, a resident of Malkangiri (Odisha), and K Vivek Reddy from Ghatkesar near an abandoned godown in the Mallapur industrial area. The duo was caught attempting to move 106 kg of ganja packed in 62 packets, with an estimated value of Rs53 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Uppal Excise Station joined the task force to intercept the suspects. During questioning, they admitted to transporting the contraband from Odisha to Mallapur. Their associate, D Madhu Kiran from Medipalli, remains at large.
Additional Excise Commissioner Syed Yasin Qureshi confirmed the seizure and stated efforts are ongoing to arrest the absconding accused.
In a second incident, Hari Kushwaha from Madhya Pradesh and Bainath Biswal from Odisha were caught with 10 kg of ganja and handed over to Ghatkesar Excise Station for further investigation.
Meanwhile, in Gopanpalli, officials from the Serilingampally Excise Station arrested Bilal, a native of West Bengal, recovering 3 kg of ganja from his possession.
All the accused were booked under the NDPS Act, and further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full network involved.
