Harnett County Man Charged with Stealing Campaign Signs

A 64-year-old man from Harnett County, James Wesley Greenfield Jr., has been charged with stealing political campaign signs in Carthage, NC. The incident was reported on October 14, 2024, prompting an investigation by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a news release from Sheriff Ronnie Fields, investigators analyzed video footage provided by the sign owner, which led to the identification of Greenfield as the individual responsible for the theft along Highway 24/27.

Greenfield was arrested the following day and faces two counts of misdemeanor larceny related to the political signs. He was released on a written promise to appear in Moore County district court on November 14.

Sheriff Fields reiterated that the removal or theft of lawfully placed campaign signs violates North Carolina General Statute § 136-32(e). He emphasized that such laws will be enforced impartially to ensure fairness during election periods.

Greenfield is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
