In a significant development, Asim Solanki, a murder convict who had been on parole, was arrested by the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) sleuths in Anand. Solanki, who was originally convicted in 2013 for the murder of a man in Botad, had been serving a life sentence at Lajpore Jail in Surat.
Solanki and his accomplices were involved in a deadly confrontation with the victim in March 2013. The incident, stemming from a past dispute, escalated when Solanki attacked the victim with a bladed weapon while his accomplice shot him. After the killing, the accused also stole the victim’s licensed revolver and phone.
In April 2023, Solanki was granted parole for 15 days. However, he failed to return to jail once his parole expired. Following this, Surat police launched a search operation and alerted the Vadodara police. Intelligence gathered led investigators to Bakrol in Anand, where Solanki was eventually found and arrested. He has been handed over to Surat police for further legal proceedings.
