Mason Herring Arrested Again for Violating Protection Order

Ex-attorney previously jailed for spiking wife's drink with abortion drug

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Mason Herring, the former Houston attorney convicted of drugging his pregnant wife with an abortion pill, has been arrested once again — this time for allegedly violating a civil protection order meant to keep him away from his ex-wife, Catherine Herring.

The protection order, issued in 2022 following their divorce, requires Mason to remain at least 500 feet away from Catherine and to avoid any form of contact. The same year, he admitted to secretly administering the abortion drug Misoprostol in her water, an act that allegedly led to their child being born 10 weeks premature.

In 2023, Herring was sentenced to six months in jail and ten years of probation for that crime. Despite those legal consequences, court records now show that he attempted to contact Catherine twice by phone on February 11.

Authorities also say Mason breached the 500-foot boundary during two supervised visits with his children. On February 22, he allegedly lingered in the lobby of his apartment building until Catherine arrived, even pointing her out to the children. Another incident occurred on March 23 when police say he drove by while Catherine was dropping off the children, fully aware of her schedule.

Prosecutors argue that Mason Herring deliberately violated the protection order and have filed a motion to deny him bail. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has also moved to recuse itself from the case, citing a conflict of interest: District Attorney Sean Teare previously worked at the law firm that defended Herring in his earlier criminal case.

The case continues to unfold as Herring faces potential new legal consequences for violating court-ordered boundaries.
