by Ananya Mehta

In a significant development, two individuals, Ketan Kadam and Jai Joshi, have been detained in connection with the ongoing investigation into a massive Rs 65 crore scam related to the desilting of Mumbai’s Mithi river. The two are accused of acting as middlemen in a conspiracy that allegedly manipulated tender processes.

The arrests came after searches conducted by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police. Investigators have uncovered that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials were complicit in issuing tenders that unfairly favored contractors using machinery from a single supplier, Matprop.

The investigation further reveals that the scam involved inflated contract costs and fraudulent billing for the transportation of sludge. The scale of the fraud has raised concerns about corruption within municipal processes and the misuse of public funds.

Authorities are continuing their probe, and more arrests may follow as the investigation into the alleged conspiracy deepens.
