OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) — Nearly a year after the deadly shooting of 35-year-old Kyaw Thu, police have arrested three suspects in connection with what investigators believe was a financially motivated killing.
Hsa Htoo, 39, Yu Htoo, 46, and Win Oo-Thein, 38, were taken into custody and booked into Douglas County Corrections, according to the Omaha Police Department. Each man faces charges of first-degree murder and criminal conspiracy.
The charges stem from a shooting that occurred on May 18, 2024. Officers responded around 2 a.m. to the area of 45th and Charles Street, where they found Thu suffering from a gunshot wound to his armpit. He was transported to a hospital but later died from his injuries.
According to court documents, the criminal conspiracy charges are based on allegations that the murder was carried out in exchange for money. While authorities have not released additional details, the case is being treated as a potential murder-for-hire scheme.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not ruled out additional arrests or charges.
