COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — A 68-year-old man from Arkansas has been arrested in connection with a scam that defrauded a Franklin County senior out of nearly $90,000.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, David Nelson contacted the woman and falsely claimed she had won $3 million through Publishers Clearinghouse. To claim the prize, he told her, she would need to pay taxes upfront. Believing the claim, the victim mailed several checks to Nelson totaling close to $90,000.

Investigators eventually tracked Nelson down in Arkansas, where he was arrested last month. He is currently awaiting extradition to Franklin County, Ohio, to face criminal charges related to the fraud.
