ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (KPEL) — A Lafayette woman and two inmates have been arrested after a failed attempt to smuggle drugs into the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center during a hospital visit.

Authorities say the incident occurred when inmate Antonio Potier was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. While there, 20-year-old Colasha Nalsha Joseph, of Lafayette, allegedly attempted to deliver a package of illegal drugs in a hospital bathroom.

Deputies quickly recovered the package and identified 32-year-old Javien Demouchet, another inmate, as a third suspect in the smuggling scheme.

All three individuals have been arrested and face the following charges:

Principal to taking contraband to a state-owned hospital

Attempted contraband in a penal institution

Criminal conspiracy

They have been booked, and the investigation remains ongoing.
