Mayoral Candidate John White Arrested in Liberty, Ohio

Independent Hopeful Charged With Disrupting Public Service

by Amelia Crawford

LIBERTY, OH — John White, an independent candidate running for mayor of Youngstown, has been arrested by Liberty police on charges of disrupting public service.

According to Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office records, the arrest occurred Friday, and White was released shortly afterward on a $12,500 bond. Details regarding the circumstances leading to his arrest have not yet been disclosed.

White, a resident of Mount Vernon Avenue, has faced challenges in previous election attempts. In 2021, he was ruled ineligible to run for mayor after then-City Law Director Jeff Limbian cited issues with his qualifications under the city charter and state law. The Mahoning County Board of Elections upheld the decision and removed him from the ballot.

His 2025 candidacy has also drawn scrutiny. The deadline to certify independent candidates for the upcoming November 4 election is July 15.

More information is expected as the case develops.
